What is Expected of the Student?
All Students - Your goal: To design and complete an interdisciplinary engineering project. When practical, the design will be constructed or simulated.
- Work on a team project that involves the use of engineering interdisciplinary skills with major emphasis on electrical/electronic subjects in order to complete a semester-long project.
- Use computer tools throughout the project. This includes numerical calculation, report writing, preparation of drawings and visual aids, programming software, project planning software, etc.
- Work on a project that will design, develop, troubleshoot, and implement a working device or process.
- Since graduating-senior standing is required, you will be required to implement analog, digital, programming, microprocessor skills, etc, as well as to work with other interdisciplinary subjects such as dynamics, chemistry, etc. when and if required by the project.
- All students are required to work as team members and to follow timelines and goals as set in the project. This includes attendance to group meetings, writing of reports, oral presentations to other members in the group, and the ability to work within project management flow guidelines and budget constraints.
- This course does not include homework, or tests. There is no final exam. However, you are expected to spend a considerable amount of time working with team members.
- Complete, during the first week of the semester, two web-based personality tests (see details below).
- Meet weekly, mid-semester, and end-of-semester requirements.
Assignments may be required depending on the project.
Project Leader
Depending on the project, a team could be divided into two or more groups. In each case, a project leader will be assigned who is expected to:
- coordinate the group members' tasks and needs,
- follow up with other project leaders in the team,
- ensure that the project is running within timelines and within budget,
- keep a log of a group member's attendance and general contributions.
Web-based Personality Tests
As part of the team assembling process, during the first week of the semester, students are required to complete two web-based personality tests. Once completed, these tests will be e-mailed to the instructor in order to put together the group members. The tests can be accessed at the following sites: |
