Master of Science in Engineering Degree

The MS program is a college-wide graduate program with EE as the selected area of specialization. Review the following items for complete information:


Requirements for Degree

During your first semester, decide on a faculty advisor in your area of interest. With your advisor, decide on a program of study which satisfies the requirements outlined below. Complete the appropriate forms and have them signed. Keep a copy.

Submit a candidacy application (located at "The Graduate School" web site > Forms > Master's Degree > Application for Candidacy) immediately after you have completed 12 graduate credits with a B average or better and no later than one semester before graduation. Pay the diploma fee no later than the beginning of the semester you want to graduate.

Thesis Option

Complete at least 24 hours of committee approved graduate level course work, generally eight 3-hour courses, with a grade of C or better in each course and a 3.0 minimum average in each semester. Complete and defend thesis to the satisfaction of a graduate committee which includes at least two full -time Electrical Engineering faculty. At least 15 hours of the 24 hours of course work must be at the 6000 level with the remainder being either 4000 or 6000 level. At least 18 hours of the 24 hours must be Engineering courses and at least 12 hours must be Electrical Engineering courses. Final date for holding a thesis defense is one month before Commencement. The request for the defense must be filed at least two weeks in advance of the defense.

Non-Thesis Option

Complete at least 33 hours of committee approved graduate level course work, generally ten 3-hour courses, with a grade of C or better in each course and a 3.0 minimum average in each semester. At least 18 hours of the 33 hours of course work must be at the 6000 level with the remainder being either 4000 or 6000 level. At least 24 hours of the 33 hours must be Engineering courses and at least 18 hours must be Electrical Engineering courses. In your next-to-last or last semester, complete ENEE6095, an independent project, and then pass a final oral exam given by a graduate committee based on the work performed in the project. The request for the exam must be filed at least two weeks in advance of the exam.

All students are required to pass ENEE6001, EE Graduate Seminar, twice and make one presentation in ENEE6001. Up to 6 credits of Engineering Management courses can be counted as non-Engineering courses subject to the approval of the advisor.
